1. Who we are
DecideMyMovie (“we”, “us”) operates the website at decidemymovie.com. We are based in India. For anything in this policy, including requests to see or delete your data, write to contact@decidemymovie.com.
2. What we collect
We have deliberately kept this list short. Here is everything:
| Anonymous device ID | When you first save a film, your browser generates a random identifier and stores it locally. It lets your watchlist survive a page refresh. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account, and it never leaves your device except attached to your own watchlist requests. |

| What you type into search | The mood descriptions you write in The Vibe, and the half-remembered plots you write in Describe. These are processed to generate recommendations and cached temporarily to avoid repeating identical work. |
| Your email address | Only if you choose to give it: by subscribing to updates, or by sending us a message or bug report. |
| Messages you send us | The contents of any bug report or contact form, plus optional technical details you agree to share, such as your browser version and the page you were on. This helps us reproduce faults. |
| Standard server logs | Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records requests, including IP address, timestamp, and browser user-agent. We use these for security and to diagnose outages. |
We do not collect: your name (unless you type it into a form), your location beyond what an IP address broadly implies, contacts, payment details, or anything from other sites you visit. We do not run advertising and we do not use advertising trackers.
3. Why we are allowed to use it
Where UK or EU data protection law applies to you, our lawful bases are:
- Legitimate interests covers the watchlist, recommendations, security logs, and fixing reported bugs. Running a working film recommendation site is not possible without these, and they involve minimal privacy intrusion.
- Consent covers marketing emails and for any non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time, and unsubscribing takes one click.
- Legal obligation applies where we are required to keep or disclose records.
Where India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act applies, we process personal data for the lawful purpose of providing the service you asked for, and on your consent where consent is required.
4. Who else sees your data
We use a small number of outside services. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job.
| TMDB | Supplies all film data, posters, and streaming availability. Poster and backdrop images load directly from TMDB’s servers, so TMDB can see your IP address when images load. Governed by TMDB’s own privacy policy. |

| Groq | Runs the language model that interprets your mood descriptions. The text you type into The Vibe and Describe is sent to Groq for processing. Your device ID and email are not sent with it. |
| YouTube (Google) | Trailers play in an embedded YouTube player. When a trailer loads, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies. See the Cookies page for how to avoid this. |
| Streaming services | “Watch now” sends you to Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar and similar. Once you leave our site you are subject to their privacy policies, not ours. |
| Hosting and email | Our hosting provider stores the site and its database. Our email provider carries messages you send us. |
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We will disclose data if we are legally compelled to, or where it is necessary to protect the safety and rights of our users.
5. How long we keep it
- Watchlist data: until you remove the items, clear your browser storage, or ask us to delete it.
- Search text: cached for roughly one hour, then discarded.
- Bug reports and messages: up to 24 months, so we can spot recurring faults.
- Newsletter email: until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs: typically 30 to 90 days.
6. Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can also object to processing based on legitimate interests, and ask for a copy of your data in a portable format. Email contact@decidemymovie.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Because the watchlist is tied to an anonymous device identifier rather than an account, the fastest way to erase it yourself is to clear this site’s data in your browser settings. That deletes the identifier, after which the stored rows can no longer be connected to you.
If you believe we have handled your data badly, you may complain to your local data protection authority. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS and access to the database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send us sensitive personal information through the contact form. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify affected users and the relevant authority as required by law.
8. Children
DecideMyMovie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Some films surfaced by the service are intended for adult audiences. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our service providers, including TMDB, Groq and Google, operate servers outside India and outside the EEA. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place, such as standard contractual clauses.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will say so prominently on the site.
